Name/TitleHand Carved Lodge Room
About this objectThis stylized lodge was hand carved by R.E. Alford in 1922, who presented it to Charles O. Shirley of Bartlesville. The carving features the three degrees of Craft Masonry depicted by the checkered pavement of the Entered Apprentice degree, the Middle Chamber of the Fellowcraft degree, and the Sanctum Sanctorum of the Master Mason degree.
Additionally, the carving features symbols of the appendant Masonic orders, including the Eastern Star, the Grotto, Royal Arch Masons, Cryptic Masons, Knights Templar, the Scottish Rite, and the Shrine. What is really interesting is that the carving also features the symbols of the Odd Fellows, the Knights of Pythias, and what appears to be the Fraternal Order of Eagles. In 1899, the Masons, the Odd Fellows, and the Knights of Pythias were the three most popular fraternal societies in the Twin Territories that became Oklahoma.
